Participated in basketball, track, football, and baseball. Named to the first United Press All-State Team as an end. Served as captain of the baseball team. Only lost two games during his four years as a pitcher. Batted .306 as a sophomore and .375 as a junior. Hit safely in 13 consecutive games his senior year.
