Four-year letter winner in football and basketball and two in baseball. Member of undefeated Iowa Conference championship football team - 1935. Served as team captain for basketball team his senior year and was named to All-Iowa Conference and Des Moines Register’s All-State basketball teams. He was the leading scorer on Luther’s 1937 Iowa Conference championship team. Lieutenant, U.S. Navy, 1941-46 in the Pacific Theatre in World War II.
