• Played on NAIA National Tournament teams - 1942, 1943
• Iowa Conference champion in doubles his junior year
• Served in U.S. Army - 1943-46
• Ordained in 1950 and served as a parish pastor and leader in youth work
• Elected President of the American Lutheran Church - 1973.
