• Played guard on conference championship football team - 1935. 
• Named all-conference that same year 
• Served as co-captain as a senior year
• In basketball he played forward and led the team in scoring
•  The 1937 team won the conference championship and was selected to play in first NAIA National tournament
•  After seven years as a high school teacher and football coach, he served as lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46
•  President of Johnny’s Steak House, Inc., in Hollywood, Calif., which he has owned for 25 years
