Hall of Fame
• Earned four letters in football and was on two championship teams - 1935 and 1938
• Four-year letter winner in track
• Named team MVP and served as captain his senior year
• Excelled in broad jump, hurdles, high jump, javelin and 880-yard relay
• Won three Iowa Conference championships in the broad jump
• During World War II served as a Sergent in the 10th Mountain Division and then as a Lieutenant fighter pilot flying missions in the Southwest Pacific War Theater
• High school coach and English teacher in Minnesota and then California for 37 years
• Earned M.S. degree from University of North Dakota and did graduate work in English at California State University-Northridge
