Kirk Neubauer Citation - Read by Robert Naslund

Track and Field 

  • A 1976 graduate of Luther, Neubauer led the Norse men's and women's track and field and cross country programs to new heights
  • Serving as head coach of the program from 1980-1986 after an impressive career as a student-athlete.
  • During his undergraduate career, Neubauer was voted team captain in both cross country and track and field and was a member of eight total (four XC, four TF) IIAC Conference Championship teams.
  • As a junior, Neubauer broke the program record in the 1000 yard run, clocking a time of 2:16.1 and a four year place winner in the 880 yard run 
  •  Three-year place winner in the Mile Relay team. 

Coaching

  • Neubauer led the men's track and field team to seven IIAC Championships during his tenure as head coach and the women's cross country team to the same feat in 1987.
  • A five-time IIAC Coach of the Year
  • Neubauer coached two indoor and five outdoor NCAA All-Americans and helped 27 NCAA Championship qualifiers from 1980-1986.
  • In total 26 Luther student-athletes were crowned individual conference champions during Neubauer's tenure, including one conference MVP, and over 100 student-athletes earned All-Conference honors in outdoor track and field.
  • Neubauer additionally joins the 29 Hall of Famers he coaches during his tenure with the program.
