The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College sophomore Sofia Sackett (Des Moines, Iowa/Dowling Catholic) has been named the league's performer of the week for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. This is the second time she has been so honored this year.
Sackett helped lead Luther to its 30th conference title. The Norse defeated Coe College (8-1), previously unbeaten Central College (8-1) and Simpson College (7-2) to remain undefeated in league play. The Norse wrap up their A-R-C schedule at Wartburg College tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Sackett went 3-0 at No.3 Singles and 3-0 at No.2 Doubles on the week. In singles, she defeated Coe’s Eliza Sundermann (6-1, 6-2), Central’s Maddie Hartley (6-3, 6-2), and Megan Grubb from Simpson (6-2, 6-0). In doubles, Sackett played with freshman Ana Olimpio (Brazlandia, Brazil) and together they defeated Eliza Sundermann and Madison Schultz of Coe (8-2), Central’s Bronwyn Metcalf and Jennifer Larson (8-4), and Simpson’s Donni Kinghorn and Kennedi Wright (8-0).
