The American Rivers Conference has announced that Luther College freshman Joaquim Fernandes (Niteroi, Brazil/Colegio Saber) has been named the league's Men's Tennis Performer of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 8, 2022. This is the first time he has been so honored.
Fernandes went 2-0 at No. 3 Doubles, and 1-0 at No. 4 Singles during the A-R-C NCAA Automatic Qualifying Tournament. The Norse defeated Central 5-0 in the semifinal and Coe College 5-1 in the championship match to earn their third-consecutive trip to the NCAA III National Tournament.
In doubles, Fernandes partnered with Nando Melo at No. 3 and together defeated Matt DenAdel and Trey Melvin of Central (8-4), and Coe’s Nathan Meskell and Jordan Oaks (8-5).
In singles, Fernandes defeated Meskell at No. 4 singles (7-5, 6-2) to clinch the AQ title for the Norse.
