PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The Luther Men's Track and Field team finally opened the outdoor season after shuffling around meets due to weather. And although, it was chilly but sunny as the Norse were eager to get back on the track. The 4x400 relay team claimed first for the best finish for the Norse during the day. The team was made up of
Tinashe Chisora,
Ian Kelly,
Leo Duffy and
Lane Schwarz.
FIELD EVENTS
Cole Peters (Mazeppa, Minn. / Zumbrota-Mezappa) competed in his first track meet of the season. In high jump he finished sixth recording a height of 1.85m. While
Joey Mehlhorn (Farmington, Minn. / Farmington) competed in his first hammer throw and discus events. In hammer he set a personal best of 32.55m and a personal best in discus at 32.12m. In javelin throw
Leif Carey-Odden was sixth with a throw of 45.32m.
TRACK EVENTS
In the 100-meter dash
Brandon Deas (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Thomas B. Doherty) qualified for finals finishing fourth with a time of 10.93 seconds. In finals he finished fifth overall for a time of 10.97. Two Norse were among the top eight in the 200-meter dash with Deas finishing fourth at 22.75 and teammate
Tinashe Chisora (Harere, Zimbabwe / UWC-Waterford Kamhlaba) in sixth at 22.93.
Cole Peters also returned to the track competing in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished second with a mark of 56.01.
Multiple Luther runners finished among the top of the field in the 1500m run.
Ian Kelly (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) won the event with a time of 3:59.90 followed by
Lane Schwarz (Le Suer, Minn. / Le Suer-Henderson) in second at 4:00.77. Another pair came across the finish
Adam Koller (Worthington, Minn. / Worthington) and
Benjamin Gillikin (Chester, NJ / West Morris Central) in sixth and seventh at 4:06.26 and 4:07.71.
Kaeden Fellingham (Olathe, Kan. / Olathe South) and
Isaac Taylor (Iowa City, Iowa / Iowa City West) rounded out the top ten finishing ninth and tenth.
In the 3000m steeplechase
Kurt Lebakken (Edina, Minn. / Edina) and Eli Shubatt (Dubuque, Iowa / Wahlert Catholic) finished eighth and ninth with times of 10:46.26 and 10:56.14. In the 5000m run
Malachi Thompson finished ninth with a time of 16:03.12.
The 4x400 relay took the top spot with Chisora leading off, then
Ian Kelly,
Leo Duffy and
Lane Schwarz with a time of 3:28.14.
TOP NORSE
- 4x400 relay team for finishing first in the event along with having the "B" and "C" teams also finishing third and sixth overall.
- Ian Kelly (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) nearly catching personal best in the 1500m run finished in the top spot winning the event.
UP NEXT
The Luther Track and Field will be going back to Platteville, Wisconsin for the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday, April 14
th. Then they will host the Norse Invite on Saturday, April 15
th at Legacy Field in Carlson Stadium in Decorah, Iowa.
