Harrison Blum a 2023 Luther College graduate and former Luther Baseball player is set to sign a contract with the Boston Red Sox. Blum played for the Norse from 2020-24 and then went on to play an additional season at Augustana University (S.D.) in 2025.
"I am excited for another opportunity to continue to push myself further in this game we all love," Blum said. "There is a ton of talent within the Red Sox organization and I'm looking forward to being a part of this historical franchise."
Â
During his career with Luther, he was a two-time American Rivers Conference first-team all-conference performer and an American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region third-team selection in 2023. Blum holds the single season school record for strikeouts with 84 set in 2024. Among the top-10 career records he ranks second all-time in career strikeouts (221) and tied for seventh in career wins (18).
"Harrison is the definition of a late bloomer. To say I am shocked he is now throwing 97 mph wouldn't be true," said Luther baseball head coach
Bryan Nikkel. "He just had to stay at it long enough to make it happen. His determination wouldn't let him quit. I am lucky to have guys like Harrison in our program who embody everything about the Luther College Baseball experience."
Â
"Luther Baseball had an immense impact on my journey and Coach Nikkel has helped me through a lot of this process. We have spent a ton of time on the phone or through text messages just being a calm voice I could talk to," state Blum. "Luther Baseball has brought me close to so many guys that I consider them my family. They have been the ones who continue to support this crazy dream of mine and they've been with me every step of the way."
"Harrison never quit on himself," Nikkel continued. "He had a dream and continued to go for it. We all get told our career is over at some point, but Harrison didn't listen."
Spring training for the Red Sox takes place in Fort Myers, Fla. where they compete at JetBlue Park at Fenway South.
