The Luther College baseball team earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The team returns to the tournament field since 2021. The Norse are headed to a regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The double elimination four team regional includes host UW-Whitewater (41-4), Macalester College (29-15), Bethany Lutheran College (31-6) and Luther (33-11). The regional is set to start on Friday, May 15.
The Norse will face Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament champion Bethany Lutheran. The Vikings defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior for the title by a final score of 10-4 on Saturday, May 8. It marks their second straight tournament title and for the fifth time in last eight seasons the Vikings are in the NCAA tournament. The last time these two teams met was on Mar. 14, 2025 when the teams split the doubleheader in Mankato, Minn. (11-7, 0-10 (8)). All time Luther is 3-1 against Bethany Lutheran.
The other first game of the regional will be UW-Whitewater vs Macalester. Both claimed tournament titles over the weekend. The Warhawks were the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season champions. They also won their third straight tournament title and were the 2025 national champions. The Scots won just their second tournament title in program history and first since 2000.
Luther finished the regular season with a 33-11 overall record. They won the American Rivers Conference regular season title outright for the first time since 1985 and first since 2009. It marked the 14
th Iowa Conference/A-R-C regular season title in program history.
This season has been a record-breaking season as the Norse set new school records for stolen bases (113), strikeouts (421), hit by pitch (106), and tied the school record for home runs (45). The team also leads all of Division III in strikeouts per nine innings in 370.2 innings pitched with 421 which averages to 10.2 per nine innings.
Noah Kindem set the single season home run record (13),
Zach Gwost set the single season hit record (69),
CJ Boudreaux single season save record (8) and now the all-time career leader (10).
Xavier Millan tied the single season stolen base record (30) and tied the single season hit by pitch record (21).
