Medcalfe Resets Own School Record For Longest Field Goal

DECORAH, Iowa – Senior kicker, Sean Medcalfe from Augusta, Ga., rewrote his own school record for the longest field goal in school history with a 54-yard game winning kick against Illinois College at home on Saturday, Oct. 3. It is the third longest field goal made in all of NCAA Division III this season.

A week prior to the new school record he tied his mark at 51-yards in the 26-13 win over Cornell College on Sept. 26 which ranks fifth in NCAA Division III. He set the school record a season ago on Oct. 4, 2025 against Wartburg College. Medcalfe beat the record of 50-yards which was held by Ted Rohlwing against Simpson College in 1988.

He was also recognized as a Fred Mitchell Award Kicker of the Week. The Fred Mitchell Award annually recognizes the nation's top collegiate place-kicker among more than 750 eligible programs across FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA football. The award evaluates excellence on the field while also recognizing character and community service off the field.

With more than 750 kickers eligible for consideration each week and only a small group receiving Kicker of the Week honors, this is a significant and relatively rare national recognition. Medcalfe was spotlighted on social media by the Fred Mitchell Award on Oct. 5 for his school record setting performance against Illinois College.
