BELOIT, Wis. – The Luther football team shutout Beloit 28-0 to improve their record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Conference. The Norse defense held the Buccaneers to eight rushing yards and 1-for-12 on third down while forcing three turnovers. While the offense scored in every quarter but the fourth with 352 yards of total offense.
Luther scored late in the first quarter with a scoring drive that went 55 yards in 12 plays with a two-yard touchdown run by Trent White to make it 7-0.
To start the second quarter, the Norse tacked on another touchdown as quarterback CJ Walker completed a 13-yard pass to Bryce Buckley (14-0). On the Buccaneers next drive, the Norse defense forced a punt. Receiving the punt was Anthony Thornton who caught returned it for a 66-yard touchdown. At halftime the score was 21-0 in favor of Luther.
The final scoring play of the game came in the third quarter. On the Luther 46-yard line Walker threw a pass to find Buckley wide open who took it 54-yards into the endzone. Buckley leads the wide receiver core with five touchdowns so far this season.
Offensively, the Norse ran for 247 yards and held the ball for 33:45, with White finishing with 150 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Buckley added three catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns, while Thornton's punt return accounted for the Norse's special-teams score. Kyle Whitfield and Tyler Ragan each recorded five tackles.
Ragan is now tied with Trent Kerrigan (2009-12) for second all-time in career solo tackles with 160.
Beloit drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Midwest Conference.
