CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The American Rivers Conference announced the 2024-25 Men's Tennis All-Conference team with four Luther College tennis players making the list.
Joao Benvenutti,
Abhay Chhabra,
Luke Westholder and
Eli Young. Earning honorable mention honors were Juan Hernandez Herrea and
Ricky Portilla. Westholder was awarded the most valuable player for a third time.
Adam Strand and
Peter Heryla were named the coaching staff of the year. Luther finished the regular season with a record of 19-5 and 8-0 in conference play.
Westholder became the fifth player to earn MVP honors three times during their career. The last player to do so was Scott Sundstom (2009, 2011, 2012). He received his fourth all-conference honors in singles and doubles. He recorded an overall record of 14-5 at No. 1 singles, including going undefeated in conference play at 5-0. At No. 1 doubles, he posted a mark of 19-9 overall and a 4-1 record in conference action.
Benvenutti earns singles and doubles honors for the second straight season.
Chhabra second time honoree in both singles and doubles earning honors for the first time since 2023. Young received his first all-conference honors of his career in doubles.
The coaching staff of Strand and Heryla led the Norse to their 36th conference title and 11th tournament title. This is the sixth time under the direction of Strand that Luther has won Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Norse now have 24 men's tennis Coach of the Year accolades since the award was first presented in 1975.
