The Luther College men's tennis team, ranked No. 38 by the ITA, has advanced to the second round of the NCAA III National Tournament. The Norse defeated No. 71 Rose-Hulman 4-0 this morning in Chicago, Ill. The University of Chicago is hosting the six-team regional May 7-9.
Today marked the second time that Rose-Hulman and Luther had faced each other, both times in the NCAA III National Tournament. The first in 2022, Luther posted a 5-0 victory.
Luther won the doubles point, thanks to wins at No. 1 by
Joao Benvenutti and
Abhay Chhabra (6-3), and the No. 2 duo of
Rhys Biro-Moore and
Jake Nelson (6-2). Juan Herandez Herrera and
Geoffrey Stoughton were up (4-3) at No. 3, when the match was halted due to the Norse securing the point.
In singles, Luther needed three wins to secure the victory. Herrera got things started with a (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 2. Benvenutti followed with a (6-3, 6-3) victory at No. 1.
Dikshan Chhikara clinched the victory with a (6-2, 6-3) win at No. 6.

Luther will now face the top ranked team in the country, the University of Chicago, at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Chicago enters the match with a record of 18-3 and winners of nine in a row.
