Clayton McDonough, a junior from Central Springs High School, has joined an elite group of Luther wrestlers, becoming the 18th in school history to recorded his 100th career victory.
He accomplished this feat after a third place finish at the NCAA III Region VI Tournament held Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arenam, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. McDonough completed the tournament with a record of 4-1 that gave him a career mark of 101-25.
During his career he has carded a record of 31-11 as a freshman, 40-8 as a sophomore, and currently he is 30-6, as he makes his third consecutive appearance at the NCAA III National Championships that will take place Mar. 14-15 in Providence, Rhode Island. He enters the tournament ranked No. 7 at 157. Last year he earned All-American honors for the first time thanks to a fourth place finish at the national finale.
Luther's all-time leader for career victories is Jeff Freidhoff (1997-200), a three-time All-American who tallied a career mark of 149-53.
