The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced that five members of the Luther College wrestling team have been named 2025 D3 Men's Scholar All-Americans.
To earn this distinguished honor, a student-athlete must demonstrated excellence both on the mat and in the classroom, meeting one of the following academic and athletic criteria:
- WRESTLINGÂ - Must accomplish at least 1 of the 2
- Place in top 8 in the regional tournamentÂ
- Wrestle at least 15 matches and have a win percentage greater than 66%.
- Matches with teammates will count only if they happened in a tournamentÂ
- Matches set up between teammates will not count
- ACADEMICSÂ - Must accomplish at least 1 of the 2
- Must have an average GPA of 3.2 over the last 2 semesters or quarters or last 3 trimesters
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2
Receiving this honor included fifth year performers
Elijah Mitchell (184) and
Walter West (285), senior
Ben Strehlow (197), junior
Bryce McDonough (165), and freshman
Brian Mitchell (157). McDonough is now a three-time honoree and West is a two-time honoree.
Elijah Mitchell, Strehlow and
Brian Mitchell are all being honored for the first time.
With these five honors, Luther wrestlers have now earned a combined 88 NWCA Scholar All-American honors since 1985.
