Luther placed third at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Saturday Aug. 31. The format was a bit different from other invitationals with three draws of singles and three draws of doubles. Points were awarded to each individual and doubles team depending upon where they placed in their respective draw. Points were awarded for each placed finished with first receiving nine points, decreasing by one point to eighth placed earning one point.
Luther tallied 32 points and placed third form the eight team field. Grinnell College was first with 46, followed by UW-Whitewater with 44. UW-Eau Claire was fourth (26), UW-LaCrosse was fifth (25), Carthage College was sixth (22), UW-OshKosh was seventh (17) and Augustana (IL) was eighth (10).
Individually,
Lena Lichau played No. 1 singles and placed seventh.
Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou placed third at No. 2 singles, and Rafaela Tavares placed fourth at No. 3 singles.
In doubles play,
Riley O'Donnell and
Abby Ostermann played No. 1 and placed sixth.
Julia Moreno and
Allie Christensen placed second at No. 2.
Abby Struble and
Liselot van Den Broek were the champions at No. 3.

Luther begins American Rivers Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Norse will be on the road to Central College for a 9 a.m. match, and then travel to the University of Dubuque for a 4 p.m. match. The Norse were picked to repeat as conference champs in the league's preseason coaches' poll, and look to continue their dominance on the court after winning their fifth consecutive conference title and fourth conference tournament title last year.Â
Luther's first home match will be on Sunday, Sept. 8 when it will host NAIA opponent Morningside University, Sioux City, Iowa at Noon.
