The Luther wrestling team kicked-off its 2024-25 schedule at the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Open this afternoon. No team scores were kept.
Nine Norse placed (top-5) led by
Bryce McDonough who was crowned the champion at 165. McDonough was 5-0 that included two falls and three major decisions. In the title match, he defeated Cole Ritter of Maryville University, a two-time NCAA II All-American, by major decision (11-2).
Placing third included
Elijah Mitchell (184) and
Cullen Quick (285). Mitchell defeated Parr Thomas Schoolman of North Central my major decision (9-1) in the third place match. He completed the day with a record of 5-1 that included three falls and two major decisions. Quick was also 5-1 that included two falls and one major decision. In the third place match he defeated Orest Nazarchuk of Maryville University (13-2).
Fourth place finishes were posted by
Chase Kmosena (149),
Clayton McDonough (157) and
Logan Burger (174). Kmosena was 4-2 with one fall, McDonough was 4-2 with three falls and a tech fall, and Burger was 4-2 with two falls and a major decision.
Fifth place finishes were recorded by
Braeden Hendel (174),
Garrett Kilgas (184) and
Ben Strehlow (197). Hendel finished the day with a record of 3-2 that that included three tech falls. Kilgas was 3-2 with one fall, and Strehlow was 4-2 with two falls and a major decision.

The Norse will host the Luther Open one week from today. Gates for the event will open at 7:30 a.m. with wrestling beginning at 9 a.m.
Tickets are now on sale. Admission will be $20 dollars for adults, $10 dollars for students and seniors (65+) and free for children under 5. Luther faculty and staff and students with Luther ID are also free.
