The Luther College men's tennis team dominated the two-day American Rivers Conference Men's Individual Tournament held this weekend in Pella, Iowa. Central College hosted the tournament and matches were played on Central's campus, Pella Christian High School, and Pella High School on Friday and Saturday, September 22-23.
On day one it was an all Luther A Doubles final.
Max Loen and
Luke Westholder won the title for the second year in a row defeating teammates
Joao Benvenutti and
Abhay Chhabra (6-2) in the championship match. The victory marks the first time in Luther history that the same duo has won back-to-back conference A Doubles titles.
In Flight B, Luther freshmen
Gennaro Dimuro and
Rhys Biro-Moore were defeated by AJ Wilkins and Ernest Alvarez of Central College (6-3) in the championship match.
On day two the Norse went 1-2-3 in Flight A Singles.
Luke Westholder, a 2023 ITA All-American, became the second player in Norse history to capture back-to-back conference singles titles. Scott Sundstrom was crowned the league champion in 2009 and 2010. Westholder defeated teammate
Louk Rijsdijk (4-1, 4-5, 10-4) in the championship match.
In the third place match,
Lev van Hemert defeated Graham Peterson of Coe College (4-2, 1-4, 10-8). In the semifinals van Hemert was defeated by Westholder (4-0, 4-1) and Peterson was defeated by Rijsdijk (3-5, 4-2, 8-10).
Gennaro Dimuro was the No. 1 seed in Flight B. Dimuro advanced to the championship match and defeated Jumpei Kasai of Coe College (4-1, 5-3).

Next weekend, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, Luther will wrap up its fall schedule at the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn.
