Despite shooting a season low round of 289 this afternoon, Luther fell one stroke shy of capturing the team title of the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational. The Norse carded rounds of (292-289 for a two-day total of 581. Carthage College won the team title with back-to-back rounds of 290 for a 580 total. Lake Forest College was third with a 584.
The 36-hole tournament was played at the Washington County Golf Course located in Hartford, Wis. The course measured 6674 yards and was a par 72.
Individually,
Haakon Rustad was the tournament medalist shooting a two-day total of 72-68-140. His final round 68 is a career low. He finished two strokes ahead of both Tyler Schick of Lake Forest College and Nick Barry of Carthage College who both shot 142.
Jay Fjelstul (74-71-145),
Mark Devlin (69-76-145) and
Owen King (75-70-145), all finished in a five-way tie for fourth. There were 62 players in the field that played both rounds. King was playing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual for the Norse.
Peter Stinar (77-78-155) and
Chris O'Brien (81-74-155) completed the Norse five and finished in a tie for 28th place.
Next weekend the Norse will return to action when they will compete at the Gustavus Twin Cities Classic. The three-day tournament will be played at three different golf courses. Day one will be played at the Elk River Country Club, Elk River, Minn. The second round will be held at The Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn. The final round will be played at the LeSuer Country Club, LeSuer, Minn.
