Luther was defeated by No. 16 Wartburg College 5-3 in the first of two American Rivers Conference games today. The win was the seventh in a row for the Knights who sit atop the league standings with a mark of 8-2.
Wartburg scored once in the first, twice in the third and once more in the fourth, before Luther put a run on the score board in the fifth, sixth and seventh frames.
The Knights Ashley Nelson was credited with the win allowing one run on four hits. Maddie Rog was credited witih the save allowing two runs on two hits.
Emily Versnik grounded out to second base with the bases loaded that scored pinch runner
Sophie Wilt in the fifth.
Belle Berg drove in a run in the sixth with a single to center field. Pinch runner
Lara Welter scored in the seventh on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh.
Kendra Cooper was credited with the loss (9-3). Cooper allowed three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
The loss gives Luther an A-R-C record of 4-5, 15-8 overall.
