Luther defeated Wartburg 9-6 in tonight's nightcap and secured the weekend sweep over the Knights in Waverly. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Norse who are now alone in second place in the
American Rivers Conference standings based on win percentage. Luther is 17-3 (.850) and trail No. 20 Coe College that is 21-3 (.873).
Trailing the Knights 3-0 after four frames, Luther scored three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, added two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to secure the victory.
Noah Sebben continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-5 and driving in two runs.
Joe Jersak, who was 2-for-3, was also credited with two rbi.
Charlie Rubendall (3-for-4),
Owen Vander Linden (2-for-5) and
Kyle Schnobrich (2-for-5) completed the list of players with multiple hits.
Collin Chalmers (2-2) was credited with the win. Chalmers pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and did not allow a run. Harrison Blum got the start on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 innings and was relieved by
Ross Hingst who pitched 3 1/3.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 21-7. Wartburg fell to 10-14 in the A-R-C, 12-18 overall.
Next weekend, Luther hosts Simpson College. This four-game series will be begin with a double header on Friday, April 30 and be completed on Sunday, May 2. Both days the first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 p.m.
