Luther traveled to American Rivers Conference league leaders Coe College this afternoon for the third and final game of this three-game series. The first two games were played March 21 with the Norse winning game one 5-3 in 11 innings, and the Kohawks winning the nightcap 2-0.
Today, Luther pounded out 10 hits and defeated Coe 12-1 in six innings. Trailing Coe 1-0 entering the fifth inning, the Norse scored seven runs on four hits in the fifth and added five runs on five hits in the sixth, en route to the victory.
Hannah Halverson and
Belle Berg led the attack driving in four and three runs respectively. Halverson produced all four of her rbi in the fifth, thanks to a lead-off home run and a three-run double. Berg drove in three runs with a triple down the left field line in the sixth.
Sydney Schultz,
Elsa Skeie,
Kyal Heydt,
Abby Spore and
Leah Crown all drove in one run.
Sam Thompson improved to 8-1 in the circle. Thompson faced 24 batters, allowed one run on seven hits, walked one and struck out one.
The win gives Luther an A-R-C record of 9-8, 20-11 overall. If you throw out the 2020 season (8-0) that was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Luther has now won 20 or more games every year since 2005.
The loss knocked Coe out of first place. The Kohawks are now 11-5 in league play, 16-8 overall.
Luther's next game is this Saturday, April 24. The Norse will host No. 16 Wartburg College for the third and final game of this series. Wartburg moved atop the league standings this afternoon with a record of 12-5, 21-6 overall.
