It took 11 innings before Luther secured an 5-3 victory over Coe in game one of today's American Rivers Conference season opener for both teams in Cedar Rapids.
The Norse held a 3-0 lead after scoring once in the second and twice in the third. The Kohawks leveled the score putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the third. In the top of the 11th, Luther scored what proved to be the game winning runs on two hits combined with two Coe errors.
Kendra Cooper and Coe's Abby Stock went the distance in the circle. Cooper improved to 6-0 allowing three runs on eight hits. She walked four and struck out seven. Stock allowed five runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out one.
Morgan Hoganson, Sydnay Schultz and
Belle Berg all had two hits.
Katie Brennan, Schultz, Berg,
Abby Spore and Cooper all drove in one run.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 9-2, while Coe fell to 4-3.
