For the second time in as many days Luther played a double header at the Rochester Regional Dome. This afternoon the Norse faced the Saints of the College of St. Scholastica. The teams split this non-conference double header with Luther winning game one 8-0 in five innings and St. Scholastica winning the night cap 10-6.
In game one, timely hitting and a solid defensive effort secured the five inning victory. The Norse produced double plays in the first, second and fourth frames that got them out of jams.
Morgan Hogenson also made a diving catch down the right field line in the fifth, that was followed by two of
Kendra Cooper's six strike outs that ended the Saints at-bats.Â
The Norse scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and added two in the fifth. The final run was produced on a double steal of second by
Katie Brennan and home plate by
Hannah Halverson.
Sydney Schultz led an offensive attack that tallied 12 hits. Schultz was 3-for-3 and drove in one run. Brennan and Hoganson both had multiple hits going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 respectively.
Emily Versnik drove in two runs, while
Elsa Skeie,
Abby Spore,
Belle Berg and Halverson all drove in one.
Cooper allowed four hits and struck out six en route to her third win of the year.
The victory was also a mile stone for Head Coach
Renae Hartl as it was her 600th career victory.
