Luther tallied 11 hits and scored once in the second, twice in the third and five times in the fifth frame, and defeated Bethany Lutheran College 8-0 in five innings at the Mankato State University Dome, Mankato, Minn. This was the season opener for the Norse and game one of today's double header. This was also the first time the Norse have played since March 8, 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic caused all NCAA spring sports to come to a halt. Luther finished the shortened season 8-0 and today's opening season win increased its win streak to nine.
Freshman
Abby Spore drove in three runs and was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Belle Berg also tallied three hits (3-for-4), while Morgan Hoganson and
Sydney Schultz both went (2-for-3). Schultz was credited with two RBI and both
Anna Forari and
Elsa Skeie and
Emily Fell all drove in one run.
Kendra Cooper took the circle and allowed just two hits in five innings of work. She faced 19 batters, struck out nine and walked two.
The loss gives Bethany Lutheran an overall record of 0-3. Yesterday they were defeated by Buena Vista University 10-0 (5) and 6-4 by the University of Northwestern (MN).
