WAUWATOSA, Wis. — Luther defeated Wisconsin Lutheran 3-2 (16-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-12) in a reverse sweep. The Norse took the lead in the fifth set after trailing 10-5 before closing the match on a 10-2 run. The win marked Sam Suttie's first win as head coach.
The Warriors took the first two sets showing dominate work from the service line and at the net.
Liv Glumack and
Kylie Zeigler went to work at the net recording a handful of points for the Norse. The Norse started off the third set with two of their five points off of service aces from
Ruby Gerhard. Glumack and Gerhard dominated the net with the assist of
Iris Elias pushing the Norse to close the third set 25-21.
After Wisconsin Lutheran moved in front 7-5, the Norse took four straight points. The teams traded points to 12-12, then
Lindsay Hanson put down consecutive kills from Elias before a block from Glumack and Hanson helped the Luther build a 15-12 lead. The Norse were able to close out the set 25-23.
In the final set, Wisconsin Lutheran built a 10-5 lead but Luther took the set on a 10-2 run. Offensivley, Gerhard led the team with 11 kills and tallied 13 digs. Hanson also notched a double-double with 14 digs and 10 kills.
Iris Elias had 31 assists and
Abi Houston led the defense with 15 digs.
Up next, the Norse will take on the College of St. Scholastica in the Sugar Loaf Classic on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m. in Winona, Minn. hosted by St. Mary's University (MN).
