DECORAH, Iowa - Garrett Byrd will be joining as an assistant coach for the Luther men's and women's track and field programs. He will be working with the short sprinters and horizontal jumpers.

"We are very excited to have Garrett join the Norse," head track and field coach Bruce Clark said. "He brings some very valuable experience to our sprints and jumps group and an incredible passion for track and field. He will be a great addition to our staff."
 
He previously served as a track and field sprints coach for the University of Dubuque. Byrd helped student athletes achieve 117 personal bests eight school top-10 performances and 12 athletes were named all-region.
 
He is a graduate of the University of Dubuque earning degrees in sports marketing and management and a masters in sports management.
 
While at Dubuque, he was a member of the track and field team. Byrd was an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) outdoor conference champion in the 4x100 relay and three-time all-academic team honoree. He also ranks second all-time in the 1600 sprint medley relay and the 4000-distance medley in school history.
