Sophomore Jacob Bruns of the Luther College men's track and field team qualifies for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship in the 3000-meter steeplechase. It is the first qualifier since Ian Kelly in 2023. This year's national championship will be held at Veteran's memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis. on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse May 21-23.
 
Bruns just became the new school record holder in the event with a time of 9:05.57 at the Augustana Twilight Qualifier on Thursday, May 13. He reset the record by Paul Bunnell in 1987 (9:07.25). The last time the Norse had a qualifier in the steeplechase was Matthew Busche in 2007.
 
Prelims for the steeplechase will be on Thursday, May 21 will be at 6:35 p.m. in La Crosse, Wis.
