Luther Sweeps Series With Buena Vista - Move Into First Place in A-R-C

The Luther College baseball team moved into first place in the American Rivers Conference after sweeping the three-game series with Buena Vista University here in the valley. The Norse tallied 26 runs on 24 hits and committed just two errors during a wet and chilly weekend. The Norse pitching staff was also solid allowing just five runs on 21 hits in 26 innings of play. The Norse won game one 11-2, game two 4-2 and game three by a final of 11-1 in eight innings. The Norse have now won five in a row and are 8-3 in the A-R-C, 18-7 overall. 

Saturday proved to be an interesting day as the two teams needed to complete Friday's game that was halted due to heavy rain in the top of the 9th with two outs. So, the two teams started the afternoon completing game one. Two pitches by Tyler Ragan sealed the deal for an 11-2 victory. Josh Stratton (5-0) was credited with the win, allowing two runs on five hits, he walked one and struck out five. Noah Kindem and Jimmy Robbins led the team with 2 rbi, while Ike Swanson, Hayden Torgerson, Ty Grewal and Ryan Truman all had one.

Game two saw the Norse score a run in the second, fourth, sixth and eighth frames. Zach Growst hit a lead-off home run in the fourth. Kindem drove in Truman in the third, who lead-off the inning with a double, with a sac fly to center. Torgerson drove in Kindem in the eighth who started the frame with a single. Brody Von Berge (4-2) allowed no runs on four hits, walked one and struck out eight in seven innings of work. CJ Boudreaux picked up his fifth save of the year.

In the nightcap, the Norse scored 11 runs on six hits en route to the 11-1 win in eight innings. They scored four runs in the second, one in both the fifth and seventh frames, scored three runs without a hit in the sixth and added two in the bottom of the eighth. 

Kindem continuted to swing a hot bat driving in three runs. Swanson and Gwost both had two, while Tyrus Werner and Jack Welch both had one. Charles Running (4-1) threw seven scoreless innings, allowed five hits, walked two and struck out four.

The Norse will return to action on Tuesday, April 7 when they will travel to Dubuque, Iowa for a double header against Loras College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
