Four Different Players Score As Luther Defeats Knox 4-2 – Clinches Spot In MWC Tournament

DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther men's soccer team clinched a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Knox College. The Norse had four different goal scorers in the contest including Yves Muhire, Blake Prouty, Paulo Mercante, and Ethan Le Moine. Luther now stands with a record of 8-2-2 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play.

Just 10 minutes into the first half, Francesco Mungari sent a cross toward Muhire who knocked it in for the game's first goal. He celebrated his first goal of the season with a backflip in front of the fans.

The lead was quickly doubled in the 18th minute when Ignacio Duenas chipped it ahead to the head of Prouty who flicked it into the net (2-0).

Later, Mercante put his name on the scoresheet as he dribbled around the box and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the 30th minute. This marked his first goal of the season.
Luther's fourth and final goal of the game came just before halftime. After the ball deflected off the Knox defender Le Moine was able to charge in and with one touch he punched it into the goal.

This was the second time this season the Norse have scored four goals in the first half. The last time was two weeks ago on Oct. 3 versus Lake Forest College at home.

Knox did score two goals in the second half in the 55th and 88th minute. The Norse picked up the 4-2 win earning a spot in the MWC Tournament.
