DECORAH, Iowa - The Luther men's soccer team and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville tied 2-2 in a non-conference game on Tuesday night. The Pioneers scored 24 seconds into the contest before the Norse answered with goals from
Blake Prouty and
Will Elias. UW-Platteville found the equalizer in the 84th minute. Luther is 8-2-3 overall and 6-0-1 in the MWC.
The Pioneers scored in the opening 24 seconds of the game giving the visitors an early lead. UW-Platteville had a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After regrouping at the break, Luther tied the game in the 59th minute on the set piece.
Ignacio Duenas crossed the ball in from the corner flag towards the box. Players crowded the box and the ball bounded where
Elliot Lindberg knocked it but blocked
Blake Prouty was there to knock it into the back of the net. Later in the 75th minute, the Norse scored from the corner flag set piece once again. This time with the goal scorer was
Will Elias.
However, late in the game Luther gave up a foul just outside the box which led to the goal by UW-Platteville to knot the game at 2-2.
Will Lookingbill and
Blair Nelsen split the time in goal combining for five saves. Lookingbill had one and Nelsen had four.
Luther hosts Cornell College on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. for senior day in the valley.
