Clayton McDonough, a 2022 graduate of Central Springs High School, posted a record of 4-0 at the 2026 NWCA/USMC Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships with all four victories resulting in falls. The two-time NCAA III All-American, entered the weekend with 52 career falls, that ranked tied for third with Danny Adams (2002-05), a 2005 All-American.
During Luther's final match of the national duals, McDonough pinned Cooper McCloy of Wabash College at 1:46, producing his 56
th career fall, becoming Luther's all-time leader. He surpassed Garrett South (2002-05), a three-time All-American and 2005 national champion, who held the mark with 55.
McDonough was also recognized at the national duals for recording the most falls (4) in the least amount of time (10:33) at the National Duals, out of over 1,000 wrestlers from the NCAA I, II, III and NAIA.
McDonough, who is ranked No. 1 at 165, is 24-0 with 19 falls. Earlier this season he moved up Luther's top-10 list for career wins. His current mark is 128-27. Jeff Freidhoff (1997-2000), a three-time All-American, holds the career record of 149-53.
Luther entered the national duals unranked and finished 13
th in the Division III championships. The Norse posted a record of 3-2 with victories over nationally ranked No. 20 New York University (24-22), No. 13 the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (28-16), and No. 19 Wabash College (34-14). The Norse are now 8-5 in dual meet competition.
The Norse are coached by NWCA Hall of Fame coach Dave Mitchel, who is in the midst of his 30
th year. Mitchell entered the 2025-26 campaign with a career record of 340-178-6.
