Men's Soccer Ties 2-2 With UW-River Falls In First Ever Meeting

DECORAH, Iowa — In the first ever all-time meeting between Luther (3-2-2) and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (3-3-2) game ended in a 2-2 draw. Elliot Lindberg and Enzo Mitidieri tallied goals for the Norse in the 31st and 88th minute.

Luther dominated the first half recording 10 shots while the defense limited the Falcons to one shot. In the 31st minute, David Barlecaj floated the ball in towards goal off the corner kick where Elliot Lindberg used his head to knock it in putting the Norse up 1-0.

The second half was chaotic as the Luther attack had plenty of good looks but the Falcons goalkeeper Josh Bates made three saves. In the final six minutes of the contest three goals were scored. The UW-River Falls tied the game in the 85th minute off of a penalty kick.

In the 88th minute, the Norse pulled out in front for the second time off the corner kick. The ball curled in towards the far post where Mitidieri got the rebound and headed it into the back of the net. Then in the final twenty seconds another penalty kick was awarded to the Falcons. Aitor Lopez almost made the stop but Sorel Richardson converted his second penalty kick of the game.

Lindberg scored his first career goal and Mitidieri recorded his second goal of the season. The Norse tallied 21 shots while the Falcons had six.

Up next, Luther faces their final non-conference opponent of the season in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Eau Claire, Wis.
