EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The Luther men's soccer team (3-2-3) and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (5-2-2) battled to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday at Simpson Field.
Francesco Mungari scored in the 4th minute for his third of the season as the Norse wrapped up the non-conference season.
Both goals in the game came in the first half. After the Norse cleared it from their defensive end where
Francesco Mungari took off the other way. He beat two defenders scoring the goal putting Luther up 1-0. The lead wouldn't last long as a foul was called on the Norse in the box. The Blugolds would get a penalty kick opportunity where Carson Kowalski scored the equalizer in the 7th minute. Heading into halftime it was 1-1.
During the second half, the Blugolds continued their offensive pressure with 16 shots forcing
Aitor Lopez to make 10 saves. The Norse defense held the scoreline. In the 80th minute,
Will Elias nearly put Luther back out in front but his shot hit the woodwork. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
UW-Eau Claire recorded 27 shots with 16 on goal.
Aitor Lopez made 14 saves for a career high.
Luther begins its final American Rivers Conference season at the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Oct. 4. The game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
