Norse And Oles Battle To A 1-1 Draw

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Luther College (3-2-1, 0-0-0) and no. 19 nationally ranked St. Olaf College (7-1-2, 2-0-0) played to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at Rolf Mellby Field. Both teams scored in the second half, with Matthew Sale putting the Norse on the board in the 79th minute. 

St. Olaf lead the shots category 8-4 in the scoreless first half. 

A foul late in the second half gave the Norse a penalty kick opportunity. Francesco Mungari's shot was saved by St. Olaf's goalkeeper Jack Hobday. Luther was able find the rebound as Sale buried it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Oles equalized in the 82nd minute to tie the game. 

Atior Lopez made a save in the 84th minute to keep the game knotted up. The Oles also missed a shot off the woodwork in the 85th minute. 

The Norse came into today ranked no.6 in the United Soccer Coaches Region IX poll and St. Olaf is ranked second in the region and 19th in the national poll. 

Looking ahead, the Norse will host the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on September 26. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
