DULUTH, Minn. - The Luther men's soccer team is off to a 2-0 start to the 2025 season after a blanking St. Scholastica 6-0 on Sunday. The Norse were led by
Francesco Mungari and
Paul Menge who both scored two goals. The other goal scorers were
David Barlecaj and
Lenny Lechner.
First half goals came from Mungari in the 13th and Menge in the 26th for his first career goal as a Norse.
Enzo Mitidieri was credited with an assist on Menge's goal. Luther had a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
The second frame featured four goals from the Norse. Mungari got on the score sheet for a second time of the game in the 54th minute with
Nels Mortenson on the assist. It was a 4-0 game after Barlecaj scored his first goal of the season in the 68th. Then just 52 seconds after kickoff, Menge scored a brace with Mortenson on the assist. The game's final goal came in the 70th minute from Lechner and Menge provided the assist.
Mungari led the team with eight shots with four shots on goal. Menge scored his first goals of his career along with tallying his first assist for five points. This was the first multi-assist game for Mortenson.
Aitor Lopez made four saves in the combined shutout with
Will Lookingbill who made one save.
The Norse recorded 19 total shots with 11 on target.
St. Scholastica fell to 0-1-1 overall.
Up next the Norse will host the Auggies of Augsburg on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. for the home opener.
