ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The Luther volleyball team is off to a 2-0 start with a 3-0 sweep of Crown and a five set thriller over Concordia College (MN) at the College of St. Benedict Tournament.
Game 1: Luther 3, Crown 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13)
Luther won their opening match of 2025 for the first time since 2022. The Norse have a 5-0 record over the Polars winning every meeting in three sets.
Ruby Gerhard led the team with 13 kills for a hitting percentage of .391 for the match.
Lindsay Hanson followed with nine kills and
Julianne Lundvall had seven. Three players were in double figure for digs including
Jenna Langen (13),
Victoria Gomez (11), and
Addie Leuthner (10). In the assists category Leuthner had 22 while
Iris Elias tallied 14.
Game 2: Luther 3, Concordia College (MN) 2 (22-25, 25-17, 12-25, 25-18, 16-14)
The Norse wrapped up the day with a five set victory over the Cobbers. Down 11-14 Luther rallied rattling off the next five straight points to win the match.
The Cobbers had 13 blocks in the match while the Norse had 15 service aces of which Gomez had seven. Gerhard had 11 kills and
Annika Franzen had eight. Leuthner added 15 assists. Gomez led the team with 26 digs which is a new career high.
Luther will play the College of St. Benedict at 1 p.m. followed by the University of Minnesota Morris at 5 p.m. to wrap up the College of St. Benedict tournament in St. Joseph, Minn.
