The only two teams that have ever won a team title of the 21-year conference automatic qualifier squared off this afternoon in the Valley. Luther entered the tournament with 11 qualifier titles and Coe had 10.
Luther, the No. 1 seed and regular season champions, hosted No. 2 Coe and were defeated by the Kohawks by a final of (4-1).
Luther held a 1-0 advantage after winning two of three doubles matches. At No. 1,
Allie Christensen and
Julia Moreno posted a (6-3) win, and at No. 3
Lena Lichau and
Abby Struble won (6-2).
Coe responded with four wins in doubles. Maria Bello Escobar defeated Rafaela Queiroga Taveres at No. 6 (6-1, 6-2) to level the match score to 1-1. Addison Leasure defeated Abby Osterman at No. 2 (6-3, 6-1), followed by Sophia Faiin defeating
Montserrat Ramirez-Mainou at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2). Maddie Schultz secured the win for the Kohawks with a (7-6(7-4), 6-0) victory over
Lena Lichau at No. 3.
