DECORAH, Iowa – The Luther men's basketball team is off to their best start for the first time in 44 years after defeating Emmaus University 77-53 on the Birkestrand Family Court. The 1981-82 season marked the last time Luther was unbeaten in its first four games of the season. The Norse led the game from the opening bucket from
Jeremy Andera as they never relinquished the lead.
Luther shot 48.4 percent from the floor (31-64) holding Emmaus to 33.3 percent (20-60). The Norse won the battle of the boards 47-35 and scored 40 points in the paint. The Eagles bench chipped in 45 points.
Leading the offense for Luther was
Henry Kreckman and
Owen Bockenstedt with 15 points each. Both tallied double-doubles for the first time in their careers with Bockenstedt tallying 12 rebounds and Kreckman had 10. Also reaching double figures was
Andre Palavra with 13 points and
Charlie Wunderlich with 11.
Savion Edwards was the leading scorer for Emmaus with 17 points. The Eagles fall to 2-3 overall.
Luther will travel to Hamline on Saturday, Nov. 22 with tipoff at 3 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
