Norse Defeated by No. 9 Knights - Medcalfe Sets School Record for Longest Field Goal

It was a warm and sunny afternoon in the valley for today's Homecoming game against No. 9 Wartburg College. The Norse battled the Knights throughout the afternoon but were defeated by a a final of 36-3. 

Today also marked the end of this conference rivalry that began in 1944, a total of 85 games. Next year, Luther will be a member of the Midwest Conference. 

The Knights entered the 2025 campaign with their sights set on capturing a fourth consecutive American Rivers Conference title. With today's victory, they tied the league's longest conference games winning streak with 29 that started in 2001. Central College set the record from 1983-87. Next week, the Knights can set the league record win a win over the University of Dubuque.

Wartburg tallied 430 yards of total offense and held Luther to 126. The Knights entered the game ranked fifth in the NCAA III for points allowed per game of (6.7). 

Sean Medcalfe put the lone points on the score board early in the second quarter when he made a 51-yard field goal, setting a new school record for longest field goal in the process. The old mark of 50 yards was held by Ted Rohlwing against Simpson College in 1988. 

Tyler Ragan, who entered the game ranked eighth in the NCAA III for tackles per game, recorded one above his average with 13. He was also credited with his first career interception. Cody Rieder was next with nine collections, followed by Danny Milner and Hank Akers with seven each. Jermarion Williams was credited with a forced fumble and Xavier Capton also recorded an interception.

Next week, Luther travels to Storm Lake, Iowa and Buena Vista University (0-2, 1-3). Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
