The Buena Vista University Beavers blew open a 7-7 tie at halftime, by putting 24 points on the scoreboard in the final two frames, en route to a 31-7 victory over Luther this afternoon in Storm Lake.
The Beavers scored on the first possession of game, a four-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with a 42-yard touchdown run by Meven Obregon. It was the first of two touchdowns by Obregon who finished the afternoon with 165 yards on 22 carries.
Luther tied the game with 4:22 left in the second quarter. Quarterback
Christian Hiner came off the bench and led the Norse on a seven-play, 60-yard drive.
Trent White scored on a four-yard plunge. Hiner finished the day with 127 yards, connecting on 9-of-25 attempts and was picked off once.
The Beavers finished the day with 460 yards of total offense, while holding the Norse to 206.
Defensively,
Tyler Ragan and
Hank Akers led the Norse with 19 and 10 tackles respectively.
Noah Heinke was next with five, followed by
Danny Millner,
Xavier Capton and Dane Peterson with four each.
Noah Heinke and
Ronnie Lemon Jr. were both credited with an interception.
Bryce Buckley led the offensive unit with 95 all-purpose yards, 34 on the ground and 61 by air on three receptions.
