Rob Larson Named NCAA Division III Faculty Athletics Representative of the Year

DECORAH, Iowa - Luther College faculty athletics representative Rob Larson has been named the NCAA Division III Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) of the Year by the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA).

Larson, a professor of management in the Department of Economics, Accounting and Management, has been with the Luther faculty since 2003. He has been the faculty athletics representative for the Norse since 2006 and is currently the NCAA Division III Management Council vice chair.

"Being an FAR at Luther for nearly 20 years has been one of the great perks of my time as a teacher," Larson said. "Working with student athletes, coaches and staff and, hopefully, supporting their efforts has been a labor of love."

As FAR, 18 Luther student-athletes have earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship through his successful nominations including 2025 recipient Jack Bell. Larson has served on a number of head coach search committees, nominated athletes for conference student athlete of the year, member of the athletic facilities planning taskforce, volunteered for numerous events, advisor and project mentor for SAAC.

He also serves on the NCAA Division III management council as vice chairperson and the chair-elect until January 2026 when he becomes the chair.

"His leadership at the national level, most recently in his election to become the next chair of the Management Council, reflects his deep commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience across Division III," said Luther College Athletic Director Megan Wilson. "At Luther, academic excellence is central to who we are, and having Rob in this role underscores our dedication to supporting student-athletes both in the classroom and in competition. We are thrilled to see Rob recognized as the 2025 Division III Faculty Athletics Representative of the Year."

Larson will receive the award at the FARA annual meeting on Nov. 20-22, in Indianapolis, Ind.

The FAR provides oversight and advice regarding the administration of the intercollegiate athletics program. The FAR also serves as a liaison between the student-athletes and the faculty at-large. The FAR also handles any issues related to the relationship between academics and athletics, including student-athletes, staff and faculty.
