CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Three Luther athletes were recognized by the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) as Performers of the Week including
Sean Medcalfe for football special teams,
Tyler Ragan as the football defensive performer of the week and
Aitor Lopez of men's soccer as the men's soccer defensive performer of the week.
Medcalfe and the football team faced Wartburg on Saturday. His 51-yard field goal in the second quarter set a new school record for the longest field goal. The previous mark was 50 yards which was held by Ted Rohlwing against Simpson in 1988. He also had seven punts for 230 yards.
Ragan led the defense with 13 total tackles with eight of them solo against Knights. He also helped force a fumble and recorded his first career interception. Ragan currently ranks sixth in NCAA III for total tackles with 64. This was his fourth game this season with 10 or more tackles.
Lopez and the men's soccer team earned two draws last weekend tying the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-1) and the University of Dubuque (1-1). Against the Blugolds he made 14 saves setting a new career high. He also made three saves against the Spartans.
