The Luther College Norse football team hosted Coe College for its home opener and American Rivers Conference opener this afternoon. The Kohawks came into the game with a mark of 2-0 and had received votes on last weeks NFCA Division III national Poll. The Kohawks, who earned an NCAA III National Tournament apperance last year, were picked for finish second in the A-R-C Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Kohawks defeated the Norse 63-0, racking up 599 yards of total offense. The Norse had 181 yards of total offense, 80 on the ground and 101 in the air.
Aiden Damiani led the Norse rushing attack with 32 yards on 15 carries. Quarterback Brett Lijedahl was 13-of-30 for 96 yards with a long of 20. Ten different receivers caught a pass this afternoon, led by
Aaron Moore with three for 19 yards. Damiani,
Raul Medrano III and
Edgar Casimiro-Martinez all had two.
Defensively,
Bronson Knutson led the Norse with nine tackles.
Tyler Ragan was next with seven, followed by
Xavier Capton,
Jermarion Williams,
James Bradley and
Jacob Whitehill with five each.
Luther will host Anderson University (IN) next week, Saturday, Sept. 28. Kick-off is scheduled for Noon.
