RIPON, Wis. – The Luther volleyball team finished the Ripon College Classic with a three-set loss to Marian University (20-25, 19-25, 20-25) and a 3-1 win over Martin Luther College (15-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-19). The Norse finish the weekend 2-2 overall.
Emma Kowalczyk was named to the all-tournament team.
Sarina Stortz entered the top-ten for career kills.
Match #1: Luther 0, Marian University 3
Marian University swept Luther to begin the second and final day of the Ripon College Classic. The Norse finished the match with more digs 44-39 and blocks 5-3. Stortz had 12 kills on 23 attempts for a hitting percentage of .435.
Kyah Olson-Sola recorded 11 digs and Kowalczyk had 25 assists.
Match #2: Luther 3, Martin Luther College 1
The Knights took the first set 25-15 before the Norse claimed the next three sets to win the match. In the second set, Luther hit .375 and held the Martin Luther hitters to zero percent.
Luther defensively has been strong at the net recording 11 blocks in the match compared to just three from Martin Luther. This is the fourth consecutive match where Luther has led the blocking statistic.
Two Norse hitters were in double-digits including Stortz with 17 and
Emily Hagen tallying 11.
Ruby Gerhard led the team with seven blocks for a new season high. Olson-Sola chipped in 14 digs and
Karoline Tiu contributed 10. Kowalczyk recorded 33 assists marking the third time in four matches with 30-plus assists.
