Central Scores Three Touchdowns In The Fourth Quarter To Secure a 41-16 Victory

Central College scored two touchdowns within a two minute span midway through the fourth quarter securing a 41-16 victory over Luther this afternoon. 

After falling behind 21-0 after the first frame, Luther controlled the second quarter and put together drives that took 7:19 and 3:53 off the clock, to pull to within 21-10 at halftime. Beau Cornwell connected with Aiden Damiani on a two-yard pass that capped off a 15-play, 86 yard drive. Central went three and out on its very next possession and Luther responded with an 11-play, 53-yard drive ending with a 32-yard field goal by Sean Medcalfe.

The Dutch increased their lead to 27-10 thanks to field goals by all-conference place kicker Logan Sunvold of 29-yards with 1:41 left in the third, and 38-yards early in the fourth.

Two fourth down sacks set up Central's final two touchdowns of the afternoon. 

Luther scored its final touchdown of the afternoon at the 5:07 left in the game. Cornwell found Nick Gonzalez on a 13-yard toss to the back corner of the end zone. The score was set up Maceo Frisco who took his first handoff 51-yards to the Central 15-yard line. 

Offensively, Luther tallied 283 yards in total offense. Cornwell was 22-of-46 with one interception for 197 yards, connecting with 11 different receivers. Cornwell had pressure on him all afternoon in the pocket and was sacked six times and threw one interception. Samuel Zegler-Evans and Blake Storby led the receiving corps with five and four catches each. 

Tyler Ragan led all tacklers this afternoon with 14. Brayden Daly was next with nine and Xavier Capton had eight.

The loss drops Luther to 0-2 in the A-R-C, 0-3 overall. Central improved to 1-1 in league play, 3-1 overall.

Next week, Luther travels to Nebraska Wesleyan University. Kick-off will take place in Lincoln, Neb. at 1:00 p.m.
