Luther concludes A-R-C Championship with six top-ten finishes

DECORAH, Iowa – For the final day of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Outdoor Track and Field Championship the weather cooperated. The Luther Men's Track and Field team had some set new personal bests while Cole Peters finishing third in 400-meter hurdles and seventh in the high jump, Ian Kelly was fourth in the 1500, Adam Koller was sixth in the 5000. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished sixth. Luther finished seventh with 30 points.
 
FINAL DAY
Leif Carey-Odden (Mount Vernon, Iowa / Mount Vernon) threw his personal best of the season in javelin at 46.68m for 13th place. He bested his mark from the Wartburg Dual nine days ago which was at 46.41m.
 
Cole Peters (Mazeppa, Minn. / Zumbrota-Mazeppa) in 400m hurdles in the final 200m kicked it into gear holding steady to claim third place at 53.77. That's his new personal best in the event all-time and he earned All-Conference. Which is the third best in school history. Peters captured seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.89m.
 
The Norse 4x100 relay finished strong at the end for sixth with Brandon Deas (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Thomas B. Doherty), Tinashe Chisora (Harere, Zimbabwe / UWC-Waterford Kamhlaba), Cole Peters and Danny Zewou (Chaska, Minn. / Chaska) with a time of 42.53.
 
Ian Kelly (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) finished fourth in the 1500 with a time of 3:50.11 matching a stadium record. He also set a school record that stood for 41 years set by Doug Kintzinger in 1982.
 
In the 5000-meter run Adam Koller was sixth with a time of 15:08.70.
 
In hammer, Joey Mehlhorn (Farmington, Minn. / Farmington) set a new personal best at 35.85m.
 
Colin Halverson (Oak Creek, Wis. / Oak Creek) set a new personal best in pole vault for his new best of 3.35m.
 
The final event of the day the 4x400 relay, with Peters, Duffy, Schwarz, Kelly was also sixth with a time of 3:22.66. It is the best time Luther has run the event all season.
 
TOP NORSE
  • Ian Kelly (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) smashed a record that stood for 41 years in the 1500-meter since 1982. He also recorded the best time of his career shaving his time by about five seconds.
  • Cole Peters (Mazeppa, Minn. / Zumbrota-Mazeppa) got on the school record broad moving into third all-time in the 400m-hurdles. In his third-place finish overall. His finish was the highest among the Norse on the day.

Luther will send a some to the Last Chance Meet at UW-La Crosse which will be on Thursday, May 18th at 3:00 p.m. CT in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
