Donovan Corn earned All-American honors for his third-place finish at the National Championship wrestling at 184. He finishes the season with a record of 31-8 after going 4-1 at the championship. Luther as a team from the combined efforts of Corn and
Clayton McDonough at 6-3 finished tied for 23rd. It is the highest team finish for the Norse since finishing 22nd in 2017.
Champ. Semifinals - Lost to #1 seed Jaritt Shinhoster of UW-Whitewater Maj. Dec. 12-0
Donovan Cron (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) gave it his all against the number one seed. Both wrestlers kept looking for the weak spots but no points were given out in the first period. Shinhoster found a way to escape out and away from Corn before picking up two points for the takedown. Corn looked over to the coaching staff still feeling confident that he could make a comeback being down just three points. But Shinhoster showed why he was the number one seed with a huge third period to get the 12-0 win by major decision. Despite the loss Corn's day was far from over.
Defeated #7 seed Colby Giroux of Rochester Institute of Technology by 5-3 Dec.
With a wave to the Rowdy Sea of Blue Corn stepped up to face his opponent. The two bounced around the ring until Corn had the opening for a takedown with about ninety seconds remaining in the first period. Giroux would escape out of it for a slim 2-1 in favor of Corn. In the second Giroux took the lead for the first time in the bout with a reversal but Corn tied everything up with an escape. It was all down to the final period with the winner advancing to the third-place match. Corn smartly escaped Giroux's grasp and with added more time to grab the extra riding time point for the 5-3 win by decision. He was now locked into the battle for third place.
3rd/4th Match - Defeated #6 seed Bentley Schwanebeck-Osterman of Augsburg by 7-1 Dec.
It was all or nothing in Corn's final bout in a Norse uniform. Schwanebeck was the first to get a point off of the escape in the second period but that didn't phase Corn one bit. In the third period Corn roared to life, netting seven points in back-to-back moves with an escape, takedown and nearfall closed out the period. Corn stayed on the mat for a few seconds after the final whistle blew for he knew what he just did. He came up smiling ear to ear. He is now an time All-American and a third-place finisher.
